Technical relaunch for the TUM Campus Heilbronn
At the TUM Campus Heilbronn, state-of-the-art education and research programs are established in the Heilbronn region, which are aimed in particular at students who want to work in digital transformation and innovation. The focus is on the management of digital change, in the field of family businesses and computer science. The website is therefore one of the most important platforms for providing students, researchers and partners with easily accessible information on study programs, research projects and campus activities.
From Headless to core
The previous structure of the website was based on a headless approach, although in the end this was not really needed as only one system was used and therefore produced unnecessary technical overhead. The chosen solution bypassed central core functionalities, which led to a complex architectureand had a negative impact on maintainability and serviceability. In contrast, TYPO3 Core offers a solid foundation that is easier to maintain and entails lower update costs and fewer dependencies. In addition, maintenance is simplified for editors, e.g. through backend previews.
Our solution
With a new relaunch project, we converted the site to a core-related system using on-board resources. The content migrationwas a particular challenge. A lot of time was spent ontest sectionsin order to be able to check the content properly at the end. In addition, all elements for editors and visitors were implemented in such a way as to enable simple, user-friendly content maintenance. Manual reworking was avoided as far as possible and only used to optimize the presentation of the new content elements.
New features
With the help of the new "Conditions for Powermail” feature, form fields can now be dynamically adjusted depending on the entries or actions made by users in the form.
“Calendarize” enables the management and display of appointments and events. Appointments can now be easily managed for individual events as well as for recurring events (e.g. weekly or monthly). In addition, the extension has a modular structure and can be easily expanded. It is extremely important to the customer that a variety of events are offered both for first semester students and for ongoing operations. Its aim is to map the reservation and administration of these events completely digitallyin order to make the process efficient and user-friendly. Students are showing great interest and a high level of willingness to participate and the digital solutions are being optimally used and well received.
The product is impressive!
The performance analysis using Google PageSpeed Insights confirms the success of the new implementation with significantly improved values. For example, we were able to increase performance by up to 40%. The consistent use of TYPO3 core functionalities ensures more intuitive operation in the backend as well as optimized loading times in the frontend. This standard-compliant implementation also ensures sustainable, efficient maintainability and considerably simplifies future system updates.
Outlook
The close cooperation with the TUM Campus Heilbronn, characterized by regular coordination, enabled a targeted project implementation with short feedback cycles. As a long-term technology partner, we look forward to continuing to support the further development of the digital presence in the future.
